What are we?
Quakers in Yorkshire is the
organisation responsible for spreading knowledge of Quakerism and the
Society of Friends in the region.
Our aims
- reaching out to help those who are looking for what
Quakerism can offer
- helping those who have found Quakerism to deepen their
faith
What do we do?
To share our knowledge of Quakerism with enquirers of all ages we
organise:
Junior Holidays & Gatherings and Holiday School provide an opportunity
for Quaker Children and young people and their friends, from different
age-groups, to have time together. Through worship, discussion and
play they learn more fully what it is to be part of the Quaker Community
and its values.
Gatherings for Enquirers, Newcomers and Attenders
provide an opportunity for those interested in, new to, or not-so-new to
Quakerism to ask and discuss more questions. Quaker Outreach in
Yorkshire can also give
advice and support to local Meetings wishing to organise their own
outreach events and lend out our Quaker Exhibition or Video
resources.
At Easter we run an event near Scarborough, called
Easter Settlement, which enables a wide range
of Friends to get together for fellowship, worship and fun. This
gathering appeals to those old and young, families and single people,
newcomers and longstanding members.
In November there is a weekend conference held at Glenthorne Quaker
Guest House in Grasmere.
This is a very special year in Yorkshire as Britain Yearly Meeting comes
back to York for the second time in 4 years. This time it is in
new guise with Yearly Meeting, Summer Gathering and Junior Yearly
Meeting all rolled into one as Yearly Meeting
Gathering.

True worship may be experienced at any
time; in any place - alone on the hills or in the busy daily
life – we may find God in whom we live and move and have our
being. But this individual experience is not sufficient, and in
a meeting held in the Spirit there is a giving and receiving
between its members, one helping another with or without words.
So there may come a wider vision and a deeper experience.
